A Colorful + Classic Summer Wedding at Lairmont Manor

When Evelyn and Sam first reached out about their wedding flowers and design, Evelyn described her vision for her wedding as “intimate, aesthetically-pleasing, and full of flowers!” They knew they were getting married at Lairmont Manor in Bellingham, and that they wanted a contemporary yet classic design in a warm color palette. Over the next few months, we worked together to develop a color story that felt both romantic yet fresh, and a design that incorporated the couple’s more modern aesthetic with the old world garden feel of the venue.

On our final design board, the color palette included “amber, mustard, soft orange, tan, peach, warm blush, rosey brown, honey, deep gold, soft taupe, and warm cream,” basically all the warm, delicious colors. Because we did full event design for Evelyn and Sam, we were able to bring these colors into their wedding in a variety of ways. The table linen was the beautifully textured “Natural Yuma” from BBJ Linen, which felt both neutral but also provided a soft introduction to their design. We also used beeswax taper candles instead of a standard white or ivory to layer in more of their color palette. To bring a modern edge to their design, we used blush stoneware plates and a thin, contemporary flatware, paired with clean glassware. Not only did all of these advance the couple’s story and aesthetic, but they felt good in guests’ hands, enhancing their experience. For stationery, we combined the romantic feel of handmade paper with the crispness of acrylic. Over this tablescape, we hung large crystal chandeliers to set the festive mood and provide light as the sun fell lower in the sky.

For flowers, we sourced the best local and seasonal blooms available: garden roses, rudbeckia ‘sahara’, calendula, ‘cherry caramel’ and ‘creme brulee’ phlox, echinacea, ‘scoop’ scabiosa, fruiting blueberry, snowberry foliage, foxglove, dahlias, and the cutest pansies! One of Evelyn’s requests for her bouquet was that it just be flowers, without any foliage, which we were happy to do! All flower bouquets that feature depth and dimension can be tricky to design, but the effect is dramatic: a big, romantic bouquet, that allows for space to appreciate individual blooms. For their intimate ceremony in front of the fountain at Lairmont, we lined the aisle with low ‘growing’ arrangements that looked like they sprang up out of the ground, and set multiple arrangements in front of and around the fountain for a similar effect. We set the reception table with lush centerpieces in low wooden bread bowls, with taper candles and pin frog bowl vases scattered between, to create a full design, but one that still had room to breath.

Thank you, Evelyn and Sam, for trusting us with your wedding flowers and design. We loved being a part of your beautiful day!
