A Modern Bohemian Wedding Editorial at Canvas Event Space

Over the past year or so, I’ve heard from many clients and industry peers that when they think of my work, they think of the blended, ombre, watercolor effect I so often utilize when designing. Specifically, this bouquet has come up time and time again as the prime example of the “Gather Design Company” ombre bridal bouquet.

This whole shoot came together around the blending of the modern, clean aesthetic with a bohemian warmth. I didn’t have much of a plan before creating the table centerpiece, but I decided to start with the deepest orange and tangerine colors on one side and slowly fade to softer peaches, then yellow, creams, and whites as I designed across the compote and the result was really fun! I decided to do the bouquet the same way. What I love about the color blended bouquet is that is gives your eyes a soft path to travel around the piece, rather than hopping back and forth between the darker and lighter elements in a polka dot pattern.

For the floral installation, I showed up at the venue the morning of the shoot knowing I wanted to create a showstopper installation but having no plan for where it might go or what it might look like. I came prepared with lots of flowers, different options for mechanics, and an open mind. As soon as I walked in, the harsh lines of the space begged me to soften them with a rounded, crescent shaped installation. I created the shape by using a double-wrapped chicken wire tube as the base, and zip-tying it to the railing (with some fishing line support in certain spots). I used various dried flowers and grasses to fill out the shape, and then added in fresh flowers mostly to the bottom, tapering out toward the top. The whole thing took about an hour. For the number of times it has been shared around the Internet, I’d say that’s a pretty good investment of time!
